| Does anybody know how much IHBA will rent the receivers and ear buds for and if you have to reserve them before a race.

| I always enjoy coming back from days off, especially during the off season, to see who has "gone off" on what subject. I may be adding fuel to the fire, but let me try to explain what Scotty was attempting to point out. IHBA has 2 rescue boats assigned to each event. One is positioned between the start and 1/4 track and the second is anywhere between the finish buoys to as much as 1,000 ft beyond the finish. Positioning varies at each race site and is adjusted for the class of boat that happens to be on the line (the top end boat will stage much deeper for fuel, and near the finish line for flatties, and etc...) There are occasions where nature calls or we need to add quart of oil, some fuel, or you name it. This would leave one rescue boat on the course. In order to make it as safe as possible for the racers, our potty breaks, boat maintenance and fetching of parts and supplies is only done when we are running classes of boats that run more than 10 second ET's, or if we are running singles instead of pairs. All capsule boats run (in theory) under 10 seconds, so Scotty was correct...when capsule boats (that's boatS) are running, we always have 2 rescue boats on the water. If you're running a 13-second River Racer, there may be occasions where you only see one rescue boat on the course. Aside from that, we're there.
As for radios, there is a reason for this. It would take me a day to write all of the justification points, but someone would find a reason to whine about it. So I'll just say that whether you like it or not, if you want to play in IHBA's sandbox, you have to follow their rules. I'd point out that we saw the same complaints with the bilge pumps... Awful idea...knee-jerk reaction...will not work...it is going to do nothing but cost the racer money...Really? Anyone care to comment on that? As has been said here on more than one occasion, if you have a question about radios or anything else, don't argue and try to reason with Joe Blow in the internet, go directly to the source and get a straight answer. (Although I enjoy nothing more that watching Gary go round and round with Scotty and JT and anyone else who takes the bait!) Paul Hosler

scottyb said... I'm not a wealthy person but even I could painlessly afford $100 for a radio. Hell, Hos and son will both eat twice that much in sushi the first night we get to Phoenix, and that doesn't count the bar tab. I really don't see the big deal, other than the fact that people don't like being told "they have to do something". If they really don't want to buy one and they only want to go to a couple IHBA races, then they should reserve one to rent at those races.
We can sit here and discuss what may / may not be a better idea or we can go ahead and get it done, because the rule is already in place.
WTF Scotty! I've been sitting here keeping quiet like a good little boy, and all you can do is drop a fat kid comment? Don't pretend for one minute that you weren't right there with us!
BTW, $100 on sushi is a GREAT deal.

I mentioned sushi because I was trying to stay away from the "fat kid" reference. For IHBA Rescue Sponsorship Package

I can back up what Scotty is saying about McDonalds. I got a call one time on the way to the track and it goes like this;
"Jimmy, I (Hos) am sending someone to get you and drive you to the track. We need you to stop by McDonalds and grab a few things for breakfast for the guys. Thanks and I will see you in a half an hour. By the way, Debbie has the list of the few things we need."
Well..............$97.00 later, we made it out of the drive-thru window at McDonalds!!!!! Can you imagine spending $95.00 at McDonalds....They do not even hold a candle to what can be spent on Sushi...Sorry Jake, but..............

I know this is supposed to be about radios, but Scotty and JT, isn't this like calling the kettle fat ? JT, the only reason the McDonalds bill was so high is because of your special order. How you got them to deep fry a double pancake and egg breakfast is beyond me. And then Scotty walks up to the counter at the Sushi restaurant, and the hostess announces "Chin family, party of one". JT steps on the rescue boat in Phoenix and the island disappears. Tedesco uses one of Scotty's T-shirts for his awning. JT bought a Harley, but when he sits on it, nobody can tell if it's running. As I sit here eatimg my pint of Haagen Dazs, I wish I could throw some barbs, but when the chips are down you guys move like olympians on steroids. I wouldn't trade you over -eating bunch of mis-fits for anyone in the world. You have saved my life and most importantly, you saved one of the best drivers this sport has ever seen and my best friend. Thank you all, I owe you a debt of gratitude I will never be able to repay. | Edward-thank you so much for the kind words. On my 49th day of volunteering for IHBA last year, I had to take a hard look at what I was doing and why. I could have been in Maui, on a weekend trip with my wife, or spending time with my grandkids; but for some reason I was sitting on a POS rescue boat with 4 other volunteers, wondering what the heck we were doing there. It's certainly not the pay (we could run our own boat for what it costs us to volunteer), it's not the good food (you can only eat so many cold double cheeseburgers....although some more than others, right Jake?), and it's definitely not the scenery (Firebird Lake....c'mon!). We're there because of guys like you. And because every once in a while, we are able to put our skills to the test and actually help someone out. Eddie, it's our pleasure. Now...enough of the mush. Haggen Dasz? WTF....are you some rich guy? Freakin' top fuel tastes absolutely slay me. Who eat's Haggen Dasz? JT buys his ice cream in 5-gallon tubs at Costco...Kirkland Double Butter Nut Chunk is his favorite. The guy uses a comercial soup ladle...in each hand...and eats the stuff right out of the container.

At least I've managed to keep my man card for 53 years, JT. Had I chosen your profession, I'd have been forced to turn in my card and my sack the day I walked into the fire station. By the way, did you ever figure out how to make your iPhone work the remote on your big screen? That reaching across the BarcaLounger to pick up the TV control has got to be more exercise than your bacon-clogged arteries are capable of handling.
Brother...it's been a long off season. Can't wait 'till Phoenix so I can swap spit with you in person.
