What's the size of the engine used in 1/4 scaled version? I'm using a 80cc 2 cylinder engine in my speedboats

Actually SDBA has made arangements to have a club from Ft. Worth hold RC races at all of the events this year. We had them at several races last year and it does work out while loading the rope or down time. They have everthing including duel prop flats and hydros. This year they have their own timming equipment. The web site is http//:www.RCDBA.com

Be carefull where your placing the engine. A model hydro doesn't act on water like the real ones. You have to put the engine as far as possible towards the front of the hull.

Hey Craig, after 20 years of asking myself, "How did I get talked into riding as "Monkey" on a sidehack". The "Put a banana on the seat and some monkey will drive it," was a close hit. That, heavy consumption of Jose 1800, and wanting to impress the girls... It all adds up.

Hey Nico: I am Herman Fergurson Of RCDBA.com. We are getting this RC Drag Boat thing going. As you know , this is an area that hasn't been perfected as yet. We are trying to change all of that , hear at RCDBA. I am the designer and builder of the rc drag boats you see on our site. The very same thing was told to me at the begining of our getting started. You might say, that , for that reason we got fully in to RC Drag Boat Racing.
I had gone to an RC Circle Race. One of the boat oweners, builder and runner , told me that very same thing. That an RC Boat wouldn't plane out if the engine was in the back of the boat. It had to be as close to center as it could be put. I decided to make him eat his words. We sdtarted out putting the engine in the rear of the boat, just like the Big Drag Boats. With enough engine and speed it will plane out. Prop size and pitch are very important. Prop RPM is also. I am building Vee drives for our boats that double the engine RPM's. We mainly use upper size Chainsaw engines. Most of our engines start at 50cc to 60cc. I am presently building and installing a Sthil .088 engine in a New Hydro. The engine is a 122cc. engine. The boat is a 46" Drag Hydro. It will be in the water this year. The engine completely cut down and ready to install weighs 11 lbs. Also it is going in the back of the boat. The center of the engine is about 12" from the transom of the boat. This boat will be a single prop boat. However, we have had goog success with twin props rotating counter clockwise of each other.
I hope this information helps all you RC Drag Boat people. You just have to experminent with what you want. We invit you to come to all our races. This year we will be runing our races, with Southern Drag Boat Races. Please visit our Site for more information. That is RCDBA.com . Thank you , and Boil The Water. Herman F.

Hi Herman, welcome to Dragboatracing.com. I'm excited to hear that your club will be working with the SDBA again this year. It sounds like ya'll will have a busy season. I would like to wish the RCDBA a great 2004 season. I'm glad to see the RCDBA keep growing. Working with the big boat venues makes good sense when it comes to keeping the show going. We had a local RC circle boat club come out to Augusta last year and they kept the crowd entertained during the towing times. I look forward to the day I can watch your club race. Once again Welcome to the forums.Big Smile

Thanks Brad for the nice reply and invitation. We are proud to be able to race with SDBA. I have been watching racing of SDBA for a long time. This is a real prevliage for us to get associated with SDBA. Thanks again, and be sure to come by at our races.
As for a reply also, to Joe. If he was refering to our boats. We are runing on 1/5th scale and our boats are 1/5th scale of the big boats. Our track will be 264 feet long. You will start in the light trap ,just like the big boats and get to the finish line just as fast as you can. This is a scaled down version of the big boats and their coarse. We have a Drag Hydro with a 55cc McCulloch chainsaw engine in it runing a 1-2 Vee drive, turn 80 mph at bryan last year. Pretty good start, don't you think. We are looking to beat that with this new Boat and 122cc engine.
The things that set us apart from other RC Boats is the fact that you have to have a clutch, in order to operate in the lights. We also have unliminted engine size witch the other RC b oats have to stay around 30cc's. One thing you have to think about when you start to install an engine is,will it float while setting still in the lights.
I hope this helps all of you that want to become members of our club, know about our racing. Please come to see us, whether it is at our web page or at the races. Thank you.

HermanF, thanks for the info about the RCDBA-boats. Although we have a few model car drag clubs in Europe, there aren't any model dragboats which are boiling the water. Currently, I'm the only one in Belgium who's practising the sport. Most other boats are replicas of F1 offshore and inshore raceboats as well as endurance race boats. I'm working on a lovely race engine for the Nitro Bullet dragboat. I have reduced the weigth by 50% and raised the rpm to a nice 40,000. I haven't got any ideas how the hull will act on the water but it will blast away most other boats on the straight line. Instead of using the usual two stroke fuel, the engine is converted to burn nitromethane. I'll put some pics on the topic as soon as possibleBig Smile
