Inside lane Kenny West in John Sirounian's Sanger The Western Mag Special Blown Fuel Hydro, The outside lane is I think Dennis Policia in Howard Brown's Howard Out-a-Sight?, Looks like Bakersfield.

Rob,

You're right on Western Mag and Kenny West. Also right on Bakersfield.

Wrong though on the outside lane both driver and boat name.

The outside lane is a Dimarco / Deaver hull.

Looks like Kenny West is just going for a relaxed Sunday drive. Does he only have one hand on the wheel. What year was that? Who else remembers the 79 World Finals at Ming when Kenny lost the rudder at the big end and saved it with gas pedal?

Geral,

I remember it. Wasn't that also the race with the lightning storm? Also Ernie Cross in the Different Strokes BAH crashed on the way to the holding rope.

That was an awesome race. I loved going to Ming.

Yes and yes.  Also there was a BGF or BAF that did a back flip with a half twist at the start.  It pitched the driver out and landed right side up and backwards.  The driver was not injured and tried to wave rescue off to keep his boat from sinking. It sank. A spectator was struck and killed by lightning while camping across the lake.  Very sad and it was the only serious injury of a very wild and crazy race.

A side note.  Bass.  Do you remember all the signs posted to stay out of the water due to infectious organisms in the water?  When they came and told us to get out, no boats running due to a side show of a guy being pulled by a horse water skiing, we informed them they shouldn’t worry since we drank enough to kill anything like that.

Gotta love those days!

It's actually a blue dimarco/deaver driven by Mike Stevens called Blood Sweat N Nitro.

Ok here's another for you.

Who is the driver and what's the name of the boat?

I think the Boat name is heatwave, I don't know who the driver is. I had this picture stuck to my bedroom wall when I was a kid.

That would be 1974....Austin, Texas.....Driver was Charlie Ames.

That was the first drag boat race that I ever saw....and the first one Eddie Hill ever saw also.

Rob....I've still got that photo on the wall outside of my office...

....cool

That's incorrect, the boat in the picture is  Larry Minors Payback, you can read it in white on the sponson. The blue Blood, Sweat & Nitro had the Deaver deck on it not the Dimarco deck.

You guys are right that is Charlie Ames in the Heatwave.

Meanstreak--after you posted Ricky Ray Roberts in Payback I looked back at the picture and thought you may be right. I may have the pic mis labelled. Your probably right.

OK guess who this and how many tiles he broke getting the boat back out of the pool

Is that the 'What a Tomato' boat in there? I'm sure that's Bob Pizza's name on the side of the capsule lid. Not sure how many tiles were broken but that is one hell of a party trick!freaked
