OK, time to put you all out of your misery and give the answer.redface
It is Robert Debord driving 'Dazed and Confused' at ski land in April 1982. According to the magazine where this picture was taken from, his only competitor in the BFF class was none other than the great Dexter Tuttle driving a machine called 'Stranglehold'.

The very first Dragboat race I went to was the spring opener in 1983 at Berenda reservior in Chowchilla Ca. We got there late and the very first boat I saw was Tom and June Ahrens Nitro Express with Dexter Tuttle driving. The announcer (the late great J.J. Johnson) said "this is a brand new piece, the first time in the water and it takes some long hair to get in one of these babies and mash on the loud pedal". I was standing about ankle deep in the water near the tree on the spectator's side and had no idea what to expect. When he got the boat set I swear I had never seen so much water in the air before. When he shifted the boat to high gear I started backing up from the water and when he went by me in the lights I fell backwards on my ass in a couple inches of water in complete shock and amazementfreaked  When the rooster tail settled I hear J.J. come on the P.A and he says "how bout that for the first pass on a brand new boat, 223.32 MPH. I can remember it like it was yesterday, and it gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. Needless to say, I have been a Dragboat fan ever since, and a Huge Dexter Tuttle fan. It wasn't 4 months later that my first Flatbottom V-Drive was sitting in the garage...Davidjumpin

all of the old pics remind me of my first ever drag boat race at firebird when Eddie Hill became the fastest with a 222.22 mph in an open boat,  I was reading that  Eddie Hill survived the highest speed crash ever recorded of a propeller-driven boat at 217.91 MPH with an E.T. of 5.24 seconds.  dose anyone know if that record still stands?   and is he the only one to out do the asphaly guys (as far as faster et)  or has someone lese done that too?  brings back memories

We have another Winner!hop That is Frank Dade driving the unamed, Joe Pisano owned hydro! Well done Rob. It was a radical (back then) Top Fuel Hydro, that set the top speed for the meet at 207.37mph. It was a 'Cheyenne' Hull. Hey David, seeing your a big Dexter Tuttle fan, i went through my photos from the WF back in 1984 and here's a great shot of Dexter in the 'Nitro Express' on his way to the start line.

TR4 - you have done it again!hop It is Scott Booth coming to grief here and the boat name, we will take your word for it as the article doesn't state it. I reckon on your right though! Here's an old shot that resurfaced quite a few years ago. The unnamed boats and drivers need to be known. So let's put it out there and see if anyone can identify these two 'warriors' from years gone by. Lets try for boat and drivers names.....scool
