Duane,

That would be Kyle Walker, He burn't the down at High Point. They then bought one of the little Kurtis Kraft boats shown in the first two pictures. Here a copy from the local ( High Point, N.C.) newspaper.

Tod,

You are correct. It's Bill Todd driving boat #531 "Billy The Kid" from Auburn, Calif. Bill was killed 22 years ago in Sept. I found out he was killed when I called Jo ann Fox of Redding Video. I called her the Monday after he was killed ( not knowing about his accident/death) to find out how I could get one of his t-shirts. That's when she told me what had happened. I used to talk to Jo ann and Rick Cline to keep up to date on was happening in the mid 80's.

I'm a noob here, so kind of an off the wall question.

Does Anyone have pics of the "Coors Light Special" PRE BFH STEVE WAGNER, KYLE WALKER and FRED BRAY? I'm talking about Cecil Florence BAH.

What a great thread.

Thanks for the pics. My dad was about to goto Work for Cecil as his crew chief when he had his accident at Firebird and was killed. What a devastating time for my family. We lost 2 good long time competitors and friends very close to each other during that time. 1. Cecil Florence and Bill Hartman - Ofixco special.

FYI, My father was Bill Patterson from Austin, Tx Long time drag boat Crew Chief. BAH SIMS Pure juice and BAH Sinbad. (Mike Sims - SDBA BAH points Champ) 1980-81 or so. Can't remember. I don't remember the name of Steve Wagner's BAH. Steve drove some, and Charlie Ames. We also had boats with Kyle Walker, Mike Sims, Buddy Loveless, Bob James (UGBH - Superbitch), igthus - UBGF Billy Friels, and more I can't remember at this time. If I could count how many weekends I spent in Waco, Liberty, Ok City, Tulsa. Memphis, Firebird and obviously Austin boat races.

Anyone know whatever happened to Sonny Leonard?

My dad was good friends with Sonny. We almost built a new boat back in 1987 and I was going to drive it.
It was going to be a BAH with a Hondo Hull. We worked closely with Sonny to get it going.
But as I recall, when Bill Hartman was killed in Waco, Tx. We left Drag Boat racing for good and my father never went to another Drag Boat Race. We then built a dragster and went to the pavement. TAD. I got licensed in 1995 at Roy Hills Drag Racing School in Houston, Texas at Houston Raceway Park. as I remember, The Capsule was a new thought and design back in 1987 or so. What a BRILLIANT invention. I see all the drag boats now with Capsules and I remember why we loved it so much.

All the Colorful Characters of Drag Boat Racing back then were fun!
You had Eddy Hill in "The Texan" You had Freddy Bray in his BFJ boats, Headhunter BFJ, Crazy Rabbit, Shazaam, Pizza Inn Special, Jerry Fulgam in "The Hill Billy" and many more I can't remember. along with the Colorful announcing of Jerry Burleson of the SDBA...

...I think he's going to Mickies - (In Waco)
and another saying...of...
"That just shows to go ya" & "he's saving his motor for another run..."
