| hey everybody, i was thinking about doing research on the sport of drag boat racing in general from when and how it began to the types of hulls to the changes in classes, etc, etc.
does anybody have any helpful sites or information in general? it would be greatly appreciated!
some basic questions:
1. what year exactly did drag boat racing start?
2. how many classes were there to begin with?
3. what was the first association for drag boat racing?

P.S. Jelly, I seen some photos of some vintage races that looked like they were from the Stone age..P.M. Larry Sebben aka Fossil and I think he can also be of some help. I think Larry was involved in Drag Boat Racing when they still had Slaves Pushing and Pulling on Oars to power the boat...lol....P.M. me and I will give you the site and the link...Take care and good luck with your research...Jimmy

From everything I've ever read in the past, drag boat racing officially started at Hart park in Bakersfield,CA not far from Lake Ming (I think) There are some pictures floating around somewhere that show the first race. www.eddieknoxracing.com Problem Child TFH #712 |

Jelly:
I went into the deep dark depths of my historical inventory if useless items and found something that might interest you.
In the not so long ago pages of Hot Boat magazine....the November/December 1998 issue, there is an article titled "THE HISTORY OF THE CALIFORNIA HOT BOAT - The First 30 years..."
It gives the history, beginning in 1943 of the people that made the boats that started boat racing.
I'll make you a copy and mail it to you if you want it. PM me your address if you want it. |
