Actually, he got the nickname before the Mr. Ken days. I'm trying to remember the owners name, but the boat was the Red Barron. The boat rarely made it past half track, so Gaylord would work the crowd with a little moonin'.

Ken Shmudlach bought the Nitro Bandit from Bud Cornelious who bought it from Tuttle. Burroughs drove it for Kenny at Puddingstone.

That picture is of him and Tom Black racing each other.(I think) Burroughs had it won and lifted before the finish. He thought he was there already. It would have been Ken's first win in BFH

Eddie, If my memory serves me correct Burroughs did win. When Gaylord got it up on 2 wheels he never let out of it. We ended up kicking the rods and Plump Crazy coasted thru befor we did. Also, it was Gaylord driving, Tom didnt start driving for the Old Man until 88' and the boat had a capsule then.

Huh, I didn't know there was a fourth 'cage' boat. I know Final Effort, Hillbilly and Madness all ran with the roll cage just prior to the enclosed capsules, with Ron's being the only one designed to exit the boat in a crash. His cage had it's own parachute and floatation while I think the other two were built into the hull. The one in the picture (Plum Crazy) looks like Rons but I don't see any floatation, so I guess it was bolted in to stay? Does anybody know the story on that one and were there any other cages out there? Not asking like a quiz-type question, cuz I don't know, just wondering.

The other caged boat was the one in the picture. Mr. Ken (previous Nitro Bandit) with Burroghs driving. I was off a year
on T.B. driving the Final effort I guess. I just remember being at puddingstone with the boat and losing. Could have been another race.

I can remember Kenny installing the cage and I thought, what a bad idea!! It's like throwing an egg through a screen door.shakehead

Eddie you are so right Rod Alexander and I used to call them cheese graters . And as far as that Tall Paul call Take a good look  that dude is shorter and way more stocky than Paul . That was like the shake down driver before the sale . So what I am getting at is I do not know who the driver is on that pass . However I would love to find out who was shoeing that deal .

Slappy , I don't tune boats nor do I set them up but I would have to say that red deal is as close to perfect as it gets!

Saved! good pic of Rod driving one of Tim's C&H's. Funny thing is, I bought my first hydro from Rod, a C&H. We never raced in BGH, but we did mix it up a couple times in BAH.

I'm going to try and post some pic's from Irvine Lake BFH. Don't know about the clarity.
Dave Nolte driving the Liberty BFH out front of the Texan. That didn't happen to often in that era. I think the other pic is of Jimmy Wright in Nitro Fever. If anyone knows different, let me know.
