Duane and Group,

Ron Ebeling  emailed me these pictures tonight. I photoshopped them  and here they are. Jimmy Wright out in the lead. Ron with Eddie Hill. Ron crewed with Eddie on the weekend in 1981.

Duane,

I've seen other pictures with the airfoil/wing on the nose before. I believe Eddie ran it 1981 season. Also notice the one picture of Nitro Fever is really a picture of Blood, Sweat and Nitro. The picture was used in a ad for City Chevrolet which Rick Hendrick owned. Nitro Fever was the Blood, Sweat and Nitro boat before Rick Hendrick bought it from Gene Deaver. Here is another picture of Eddie Hill's boat sent to me by Ron Ebeling.

OK students here is a basic question and simple observation.  Why was Eddie Hill so sucessful in drag boat racing? He made his boat work...look at the picture.  He beat his competition like a drum because he knew how to make the boat work. Many of the people he beat over and over again were experienced, well financed and seemed to make tons of horsepower, yet all they could do was watch that white boat drive off into the distance.  The answer is in the picture.

I doubt that the answer has anything to do with the dropped cylinder

One ear of the prop in the water at a time ? I would have to say it is all in the set up of the boat in regards to the HP .
