thanks bob. now that the on-again, off-again, is on-again (at least for the moment), is the city going to take any steps to assure that this isn't a recurring theme? you know me, and this is nothing personal, but it seems to me that a "frivolous" attitude exists with regard to an event that can be of significant economic benefit to the community. the sense i'm getting is that "racers complained, so let's go ahead and open our sandbox so they can come play". so i'm supposed to feel grateful now that the city has deigned to open their doors, so i can make a 1000 mile round trip, spend hundreds in the community and race. taking the whole thing into consideration, to me this is disrespectful to the sanctioning body AND THE RACERS. chowchilla is not providing any more a "favor" to the organization/racers than the organization/racers are for chowchilla. if the city were to seriously commit and promote this event, there is no telling how big and beneficial to the community it could be. they should take their cues from red bluff, marble falls, augusta, san diego, that commit to these events and promote on a year round basis. how can the city effectively promote this when they're still noncommital 2 months prior? you know, i enjoy being there, enjoy racing there. but i don't enjoy the feeling of not being wholeheartedly wanted; that's disrespect. i apologize for unloading, and i do not speak for anyone else. but this is how i feel after all this yo-yo'ing, and i do hope that the city takes a closer look at this both before and after the next event. |

Bob I understand exactly how you feel. I'm a citizen in this community and until you hit them (the city council) in the pocketbook nobody is concerned. I do know that the communications breakdown of why the race is or isn't going to happen starts with the IHBA and Lions club's ongoing contract issue. I can't say this is CF's way to try and get around the "Breech of Contract" issue with the Lions Club, BUT.....if the city takes over and he still gets to put on the race who is going to make the money????? I want to see the race happen and be successful. When the Lions club started putting on this race they made a lot of money for the local projects they sponsor. I want them to continue to make money. The racers are the reason this location has been and will continue to be successful. Lets hope things work out for the best.
If we stop having races at Berenda Reservoir with all of the development that has taken place we may never get the chance to start up again.
Now everyone remember: "THIS IS JUST MY OPINION" and yes I know what opinions are considered to be....Because I have been called that in the past and undoubtedly will be called that again in the future.
Take care |

In all honesty, there had been talks behind closed doors for quite sometime. Depending on which Lions Board Member you speak to, they arent interested, then they are , and back-n-forth for quite sometime. It really didnt come to a head until certain business peple and racers, and locals started asking pointed questions. Bob, I am not at liberty just now to be more specific. However, I believe, that once this is settled, that any recurrance of this Tug-O-War will no longer exist. I have been kept in the loop, however I have not been asked to give any input or guidance. So we'll just have to wait and see. Something will happen very soon. Have a great day. Bob Murdoch |

I dont know what to tell you. I inquired yesterday and I was told that it is a City of Chowchilla Parks & Rec. situation and that I do not need to get involved.
I am at a lost. I actually thought I had a better repoire with these people. I learned something.
I guess you guys are on your own, I appologize incase my actions may hurt the overall situation.
Best of Luck. Bob |

bob, i seriously doubt that anything you say or do could have further impact on whether or not this happens. in the corporate world, a dedicated and hard working vice president can be in good standing one day, and escorted out the door the next without having the option of packing his personal items - happens all the time. at the end of the day, it's up to the chowchilla decision makers to either utilize what could be significantly beneficial to the community, or not. |

I just spoke with the IHBA today when I renewed my membership for the year. I was told that they are waiting for the city of Chowchilla to get back with them and should have a definite answer if the race is a go within the next week...
Bob P. I read your post and wholeheartedly agree with what you wrote. Every year its a big fiasco rather the race is a go or not. As you stated they should be promoting this race all year long for the financial gain to their community. Ive stated for years that they need to promote the race on bay area radio stations instead if all the little hick towns... The bay area is where the money is at with alot of race fans.
Lion Bob, your still the man and if the city had any sense they would hire you to handle the city's end to put on this race. Based on the condition of their fairgrounds its no surprise to me that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in that city... If the race is a go you will be treated like the VIP that you are in my pit and I'm sure many more... BTW don't forget my lavender hose... |

It would have been much more likly to get a race for sure if all this concearn was started back then mr. tech, everybody was at the world finals in november. lionbob did not "announce" that the contract had been cancelled in november, only that he had retired and did not know who would do anything. the contract cancellation wasn't made public until a few weeks ago. my only concern is the same thing you're implying; that the only way a race can happen is if racers whine about it. i have no control over people that are seemingly that obtuse. someone may be able to lead the horse to water, and get them to drink, but the only horse i can lead to water is 298.

OK I may be wrong for saying what I think somebody else is trying to imply, But I my earlier post was taken directly from the post Bob made on here dated the end of Nov.,2007 whereas Bob stated that the race may be in trouble.
Tech may have just been saying as I am, that we should have started working on making sure there was going to be a race back then insted of getting worked up in the last minute.
who knows I could be totally wrong? |

Sean your not wrong but as Bob stated we shouldn't have to be involved period, were racers not the sanctioning association or promoter. Also the bomb was just recently dropped... |

Just read the Chowchilla News date Apil 23, 2008. No mention in there about the City Council Mtg. other than the impact fees of the poilce dept. However there is a letter to the editor from Jim Jack. So here it is reprinted without permission of The Chowchilla News: Editor: My name is Jim Jack, and I am the IHBA Chaplin, and have served in that capacity for 17 years. Coming to Chowchilla for the IHBA drag boat races is one of the highlights of every year. I have been attending the IHBA races at Berenda Reservoir since 1993. In the role as chaplan, we pray for your town prior to coming into town. I have attended churches in your town. I have gotten churches in Chowchilla involved in our chapel services during the race weekends. We also have church members and bands play at our two chapels every year. We have church members sing the National Anthem too. And are excited about this year's race as well. The drag boat racers love racing in your town, and they love the spiritual side as well ( we are Team RFC...Racers for Christ). We pray for a town before the races, we pray that the racers arrive safely in Chowchilla, and praying for a safe race is all part of what we do. Even the Billy Graham Crusades pray in advance of where he will be speaking...the success of his efforts is well documented. I believe that when the IHBA races are in town, it benefits the community in many ways. With the economy on the down side, it is a plus for all of us to come to Chowchilla. It benefits many of your local businesses, as many racers and fans drive in from several states to race. They spend their money in your town. Racing in this country draws over eight million fans a year. Please let Chowchilla be a part of the contigent of people who love motorsports. I am convinced the races will be a blessing to Chowchilla every year they are allowed to compete. God Bless you and the town of Chowchilla always and in all ways. Jim Jack IHBA Chaplan Thank You! The latest update I have is that the City's P/R Committee was to report back yesterday. I have not heard on the out come. However, I feel that the Lions must still be in control as to the City's "Tip Toeing" thru the process. I feel the city will let the races slip thru, relying on the Lions. Just MOPO. Bob |

Well that is one of many things on my “to do list” Jeff, add words to the dirty word filter... Thanks for reminding me of the words I need to add! There was a schedule meeting tonight from what I was told. If the was their final decision I will have to quote “Mr T” “Pity the Fools”… |

I was told the meeting was to take place this afternoon. I did not get an email stating the meeting was rescheduled. I should get an email in the morning. If what Bruce said is true, then I believe that local businesses may boycot a certain service club's activities. Jeff, I still got the hose. I didnt want to use the term "Your Hose" Robert might get excited! I should be up your way later this week, I'll call you. Bob |
