Just looked at the IHBA Website and it is posted that the Lions Club has bailed and now it looks very certain that the Chowchilla race is cancelled. NICE!!!! |

| Tony sounds like all the clubs better learn to pull together before drag boat races are dead country wide. |

I thought this year would be the conclusion of the 4 year contract the IHBA had for Chowchillia. |

That is all I have heard too, Homeland security has found a new way to make more money by cracking down on the sale of Nitro. I am sure it will be resolved before the first race.

We all know it's how you word things and I am probably not doing a very good job writing this post correctly; however, there were not two races lost by the IHBA.
The IHBA has two less races this year due to the fact the promoters pulled the plug. If the races were lost by the IHBA that would mean some other association would be the sanctioning body!
I.E. the ADBA lost High Point and replaced the race date with one in Gadsden.
There will be replacment races next year, to short of time this year to "get er dunn"! |

Ya All act like this is new news?
It was pretty much done when Bob was no longer the Chowchilla Lions Club President.
Quoted from last Nov.

Thank you all for the kind words. It has been quite an experience.
There is a cancelation clause in the contract to which either party may choose to excercise.
The Lions club is under new leadership and is pursuing different paths. They may choose not to host a boat race this next year, and they may abandon it completely.
My own personal opinion , if the races go away I feel it is due to the direction the club is going. I wouldn't pass blame on CF/IHBA.
However, I wouldn't rule out Drag Boat Races here, they just may take a break. But then again who knows?
BTW Jeff, I still have your hose!
John, I'll be up your way on Monday next week, maybe we can have a Starbucks Coffee! You do have Starbucks in your part of the galaxy don't you?
I wish everyone a Great Holiday Season as well a rested Off Season

I recieved a call from Hydroman this afternoon asking me if there was anything I could do as a "local" to solve this problem. I realized several months ago there were some problems between CF and the Lions (remember CF is wearing two hats in Chow he is the owner of the sanctioning body and the promoter, which might be doable if he lived next door). The Lions like any social club have membership changes and interest changes. For many years I have been vocal about the benifiits to the community, something that is difficult for Lions club members to understand as to my knowledge none of them own a business that is directly affected by the race. I have owned a business and here is the actual numbers this is from memory but the books are in my shop is there is doubt my Mini Mart Store sales in june would average 800 thur 1100 fri 900 sat 800 sun on race weekend I have had very often three times and some four times income in the same period back then we are at 31% average mark up in the store, the race is a BIG deal to every service business in town. There is another side to the coin the Lions are the hardest working bunch of "will work for food and beer" guys you have ever seen. The city manager can almost mention a project that she would like done and zap the concrete is in the toilets flush you name it it is done. Sooooo when you run into city halll and bad mouth the Lions you have opened mouth and inserted foot. As many of you know in 1998 the Lions said they had too many events on thier schedule and canceled the drag boat races. I have know Whiskey River since the early 70"s when we both raced MX so he asked me if I could help get the stalled event back on track. Which I did and IQ continued to promote the event untill there was just no respect left on either side. I'm too old, the kids are to busy, we are involved in two race cars, my flat bottom is ready for the motor, to take a run at this event again. I have made some calls and it appears there is not just one problem. Now what can YOU do to bring a race to what I feel is one of the safest tracks you race on. Number one there is a group that benifits, motels, resturants, mini marts, bars, bars (oh I said bars twice guess I like bars) That may friends is your targets, this is not a big town if someone would take a moment to post the ph numbers of all the business's (5 resturants, 3 bars, 3 motels, 4 mini marts) , the city hall, and the chamber office and everyone start calling I think this will get moving. Good Luck the family misses drag boat racing and will help in any way we can. Howard |

| recieved another round of calls The lions seem to have not only the exclusive right to be the benifical non profit from any boat racing event at the lake, they also seem to have the exclusive right to decide if there is or is not a race. Other non profits have approched the city manager and have been advised this is a "political issue" what ever that means. I can tell you I solved it very simply the last this occured $$,$$$.$$ to the city and chamber and the race was on. |

I am just as perplexed as the rest of you. I was told by several Lions Board Members, that the boardhad decided not to host any more drag boat races period. This should have opened the door for other service clubs to step up.
I have left several telephone messages (5) with the city administrator, but as of today she has yet to return any of them.
I have been out of town doing my Day Job, but I am back in for the rest of this week. I'll go see a council member friend of mine and see what's up. I'll also talk with some other service club officials.
In the mean time, Howard knows who else needs to contacted.
The time table needed to put on a race for June hasnt passed yet, but it is getting close.
Have a great day. Bob |

Well if we do end up losing this race in the long run, what about opening up San Diego race to all racers? It doesnt give us another race but at least it might give us racers another California race to race that other wise might not have had the chance to attend. just a thought |

This could be an option if it was not part of the regatta. Since this is a joint race with the other forms of boat racing our allotment of time to run is zilch. I calculated the time last year and posted it I will go look to repost here but the time they slotted for us was something like 6 hours for the whole weekend to run 80 boats, 2 rounds test and tune on Friday, two rounds of qualifying on Saturday and the Eliminations on Sunday.
Many do not realize that Charlie pulled this off in such small windows of race time. I personal commend Charlie for his accomplishing the race with this type of time allotment. It was a true team play by all to get it done.
It is something to consider but I don’t think there is much that can be done to change the time allotment. Maybe a new race course in San Diego would help! Let’s hope the plans go through!

There needs to be a joint deal with NJBA or CDBA for a race. Not many more options available or you need to make a serious push for Irvine Lake |

| The sad part is I had a hydro set up at the march meet at Fomoso to help promote the race. And had a video set up of Gils crashes showing for 3 days and giving out 5 buck discount coupons for the upcoming Chowchilla race. We all need to call the city manager and or the mayor and give our support for bringing $$$$$$ to the Chowchilla businesses. |

Well I just called and cancelled my room, when I was asked why I told them that the lions club said no race and the city leadership said ok not concerned about the revenue that will bring to their hotel. Needless to say it peeked their interest to contact the parties involved.
Well I don't have a list yet but we should probally find one and circulate it to all.
How many of you have rooms booked already and how many rooms for how many days?
I had 2 rooms for 3 nights @ $129 per night

Im sure the hotel is pissed Duane. Seeing as they raised there rates 50% just for this event were really gonna shove deep inside and break it off. Now they are gonna have to get back to real business at $69 per night and no 3 night minimum. Id be scrambling to reach the powers that be too!
