I'm the nephew of the late Al Bush and would like to know if anyone has access to photos of him and Crazy Horse. I had ordered a pic from Clyde Parkherst (sp) but it ended up getting crumpled in the mail. I remember my uncle coming to Michigan and racing when I was very young (didn't do so well) but am proud of his achievments. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Jeffrey Howard Bush |

Joe Don why not share your help with all? If you have information and/or photos I am sure we all would cherish them equally.

Jeffrey:
Proud you should be. He was one of the greatest, if not the greatest to ever race!
I remember the last year of the Aqua Fest in Austin, I think that he had crashed 6 boats by the time August came around. The story was that the week before coming to Austin, he had been out on a lake TESTING a Blown Fuel Flatbottom and crashed it.
Pete and Marlene Kaiser went back to the shop and got the LEAST torn up boat they had and drug it to Austin to race. The deck was held on with duct tape!
He was awesome! I've got a magazine that shows him on a 175 mph pass in Waco in the early years. |

Hey Boat372,
Al's Posse told me about a time when they dared to go bare footin behind the boat with an extra long rope. Uncle Al wasn't there but the throttle stuck and the boat climbed a tree on the shore. Everyone bailed out but the stinkin baefooter wore a cast all the way up his leg when they took the midwestern tour at Vineyard Lake. Aunt Jo Ann put it in perspective. "Those boys should not have been testing the boat." His brother, my dad, calmed her down. |

Bushdog535,
If you go to wediditforlove.com and go to page 46 of the drag boat pics, you will find some great pics of your uncle. I knew your uncle from the days when he had his trailer at rainbow marina in Needles CA. What a great driver and a great person. Hope this helps with finding some pics of him. Dear Bushdog535:
I was a huge fan of your Uncle as well. I was pretty young when I watched him run 173 in Dayton Ohio in 1979. The following year when the ADBA started and I realized I may not see the boat again I offered someone $50 for their Crazy Horse T-shirt. My Mom freaked-out (it would have been her picking up the tab). She made a couple of calls and got in touch with your Uncle. He was kind enough to send me a T-shirt and some pictures he had laying around. It was an unforgettable birthday present. I still have the shirt and pics. I'd be happy to scan them and e-mail them to you. |

Both Pete and Marlene are still active with their son in nostalgia asphalt top fuel here on the west coast. I ran into them at the SEMA show in 2004 and talked with them for a few minutes. I'm sure they have pictures and can tell you all the stories that you want. It shouldn't be too hard to locate them. I was also a great fan that enjoyed watching him in the late 70's and early 80's. I have a couple pictures of the destroyed boat from the Red Bluff event, in `82, I think. I attended his memorial that was held at Lake Ming. I echo those that praised him in previous posts, as one of the greatest that I ever knew and saw to pilot a TFF. |

We crashed the Horse at the Turlock Res. Bob Morgan from Ok. loaned us his boat to run at Long Beach. The next Monday after the race Stinger and I drove to Walnut Creek got the Horse and some spare parts took the Horse back to Stingers house in Canoga Park where Pete And Marlene were, where we all striped it and had it at Hondo Boats Tuesday AM.
Got the Horse back late Wednesday put the Horse back togather and left for Austin Thursday night about 9:00 PM, got into Austin about 4:00 AM Saturday morning finished rigging all the small stuff and went racing. Left Austin Sunday after the race and were in Walnut Creek lateTuesday. AND THATS THE WAY IT WENT!

I have some good Ed Wills adventures at the Oakland Marine stadium, off Hagenbuger rd. That enclude Tommy Black, Sam Kurtiovich, Dago, Luke, Bones and the real Mr Bales. I even had a encounter with Rocket Man Gary Gabaloish...last name is not spelled correctly... before he drove the Blue Flame Rocket land speed record car. He drove the Western Mag boat a few times before Big John fired him.
Ill sit down and fill you in as soon as I get a little time, they even include Swabee, Harold Kindsvauter who allowed me to grind on a few of his Flatbottoms, Earl Bashant he drove Shame Megans TFH(Golden Thing) that still lays on the bottom of the Turlock Res. Mr. Studly Kenny West, and Dave Nolte...and Al the man Bush...we drank a bunch of beers, and did a lot of bench racing. I am leaving out a lot of people...but ever man above (was) and the ones still around are very good Friends
I have been around a lot of very good racers and most of all Special People.....that was then!.. Now theirs Dennis, Daryl, John White, the team is family) Greg, Eddie, Dale and the list goes on.....AND I HAVE THE BULLET....IT CAN'T GET ANY BETTER.
BULLET....

Jim,
I never had the pleasure meeting Al Bush, Sunny Jones, Tom Black, but when you find the time type out some fun stories, I will pull up a chair.
Thanks,
Cole Man / Criag.
