Ok, What do you need? I know i can't help on the gears but maybe on the prop. Jim has a 11x16 and some other small stuff. I have a 12x16 but it may make the small boat pull to the right some. But it will blast out of the hole. Let me know what you have in mind. Later 383 |

Will the race updates for this weekend be posted on this topic or will we start a new topic? Waterrocket the Leas Brothers have 2 trailers for sale. Both are 44' Pace GT Shadows, they will both be at Malvern this weekend. We have both of them for sale but will only be selling 1 of them. Which ever 1 sales first I will be keeping the other.

Joey, y'all be careful on the road and have a great time in Malvern, it doesn't look good for us getting to go, the RV is still ready, but Carols sister is our main priority now. Wishing all of the SMITC ompetitors a safe race and good weather. Get those O O O O O's and win the $$$$$$$$$$

JC, I talked to Garry snow as they were going to the ramp for 2nd round, Steve Douglas is in the middle of the pack with a 6.24 I think that is what he told me, Tony Anderson is sitting good in 7 second class for now and Johnny Dunlap is in the hunt in 8 sec. Garry is supposed to call me back with updates on all of the qualifiers.

Crazy Train never got started in 2 attempts yesterday - they are having a driver change for today Tim's out Raff's in. The bump for the 6's is 6.19 after two rounds! It's going to be a tough one. |

Just talked to Benson and Vic,Benson made the show in #5 spot with a7.017 said had to have a 7.092 or better to make the field,#1 spot went to What A Rush with a 7.004,33 boats tryed for that class the 7 sec..Vic made it in at #15 just barely made it in the 8 sec class.49 boats tryed for the 6 sec class, they said #17 thru #24 qualifyers get shot at second chance along with losers from the 16 boat field in each class.Joe Don you ever get that web cam to work that David Tidwell sets up on SDBA web site. JC, Tony Anderson made it in the 7 sec. class and Chad Hall in my old Hondo Flat made it in the 10 sec. Steve Douglas didn't make the 6 sec, ran a .24 but did get in the 2nd chance race, and that was all Tammy knew.

Buzz is Crazy Train an outboard running in the 6 sec. class, the reason I ask is because there was an outboard that lifted off an came back down on the good side, Tammy said it was scary looking.

Anybody hear from WaterRocket. I wonder if he made the 9 sec field. Did Denise Hodges make the field? How about Sam Russell? He would probably be in the 7 sec class. Is Payne there? Who is there and who is still running? Inquiring minds want to know. I would have been there for updates but after I worked the a$$es off the Italian consultants and got them headed back to Italy, we had a virus attack on our systems. I thought I had things put back together and my Mom called and asked me if I remembered that Saturday is my wifes 29th wedding aniversary. It's not like it was our 50th (which I will probably forget like I did our 25th) but my wife was making a big thing out of it .

Sam, I talked to Tammy last night and got all the info I could, Garry was busy wrenching on 2 or 3 motors and I didn't want to disturb him, I will try to get him in a few before he gets busy. By the way missing those dates can be detrimental to ones health.

Tell me about it! I can still remember when I pulled a double on a drilling rig back in 75 and then came home all worn out to find my wife had a celibration dinner and gifts and everything for our 1st anniversary. It bothered even me, that I had forgot. I remembered the 12th through the 17th because I had a secretary that reminded me and told me what to buy. After that, we started evolving into the computer age and the number of secretaries became fewer and fewer. Our society became politically correct and no longer tolerated a job classification of secretary because of some of the demeaning duties typically associated with secretaries. I always took my secretary coffie rather than the other way around because I knew I was sunk without her, but some treehuggers started playing their fiddles and we all had to dance. Anyway, the oversite of anniversaries and birthdays and ...... by the husbond is not his fault, it's just the result of the computer age and decay of our society. I think that the wives should be a little more understanding concerning issues that are not in our control.

I talked to Garry and he didn't think Rocket or Denise made the show, and I can understand the not knowing about what everyone did, as you can imagine this race is a test of nerves and equipment, not like your normal show where qualifying to make the show is usually a shoo-in. At SMITC qualifying is the battle with 50+- boats trying for 16 positions it will test the driver and the wrench to the limit. He is going to call me with what info he can find out during the race, so hopefully between JC and myself we can keep an update on the race for the big $$$$$$$$$$$.

My Grandpa 739 "Fuelish Pleasure" dident make the 6 sec. cut and has a 8.0 boat that can run 7.70's. This race is definatly gonna take a Blower or Mountain motor on Nitrous to be a serius contender. I'm not so sure that a 6.0 is equal to a 1/4 mile 8.0. Alot of boats in this one that are sleepers in the 8's are gonna be big players this weekend. |

get a pic of your wife, put it in a nice frame with the anniversary date engraved on it, and put it someplace you'll see it everyday (preferably next to the calender you use to figure out what day it is). works for me (actually, she gave it to me for an anniversary present - smart wife. that's why her champ jacket from last year sez crew chief ). |

Ricky, your thinking is correct, if you have trouble running an 8.0 you are not gonna make the big show, it takes a boat that is capable of running in the 7.80+- 1/4 mile to be a contender at SMITC

BP, that is a great idea, I remember the anniversary dates, but my biggest worry is does it belong to my current wife? I have been married more times than I should have been.

1,000 ft. / 1,320 ft. = 75.75758 % 8.00 sec. X 75.75758 % = 6.06061 sec. 7.80 sec. X 75.75758 % = 5.90901 sec. 6.00 sec. / 75.75758 % = 7.92000 sec.

Bear, I was pretty close, wasn't I? Ricky, your Grandpa's boat should have been a contender in the 6 sec. class, however when you prepare for the 1000' course in a v-drive the gearing and the propping is all important, a 1/4 mile setup will leave you scratching your head.

This is assuming everything is proportional. I would bet the last 1/16 mile is significantly under 2 seconds in a 8.0 1/4 mile. What is an average 1/8 time in the 8 second class?

They use to run an 1/8 mile race at Wichita and it may be coming back if the rumors have any merit. I'll bet the guys that ran that race can give us the low-down. A few years ago the wind hitting the shutdown area at Herington caused them to change the race to an 1/8 mile. They said that each class would run where they qualified for the 1/4 mile and it would be an all-out whoever got there first race. The jet boats thought they had the advantage but the prop boats started changing props and stuff and from what I have been told, it was a great race.

Scotty, if I remember right Garry told me that Steve Douglas's 8 second jet was running a 4/60+- i/8 mile et. In my PGF which ran like a bracket boat around 8.0 on every pass the 1/8 mile was generally in the 4.3 sec. range. I don't think there is an 1/8th mile sensor set up at the races, it is usually an interpolation done by the computer, and we know how smart computers are, don't we?

They said that each class would run where they qualified for the 1/4 mile and it would be an all-out whoever got there first race. The jet boats thought they had the advantage but the prop boats started changing props and stuff and from what I have been told, it was a great race.
Sam, when we ran on the Arkansas River in Wichita it was a 1000' course. amd I will never forget that, I was running the 6.25 sec. bracket with the Cole Blood Comp. Flat setup, and we only got one qualifying run due to rain, I ran a breakout 6.19 sec. pass and they paid the $600.00 purse to the lowest legal qualifier which was a 6.37, all I need was one more qualifying pass and not fly the boat, oh well if your aunt had balls she would be your uncle.

If the average MPH over the last 1/16 mile were 140 mph (most 8 sec hydros terminal velocity is about 145 mph) they are covering 205.33 feet per second - 1/16 of a mile equals 330 feet hence 1.607 seconds to cover this distance. That would leave your average 8 sec hydro running a 6.4 in the 1000' course. |

Steve, for arguments sake that is a good number, however in my PGF, we ran the lockup type prop and spun the hell out of it at the start, and just from memory, it didn't start bending the seat until about the 1/16 mile mark and from the 1/8th on it stretched your arms almost out of their socket, it would be neat if they had the sensors like NHRA does, but I understand the maintenance problems associated with sensors and water.

I run a really loose prop on my hydro also but it is hooked up on the top end and that is where the course is shortened. My boat ran a 8.07 at livemore, Ky in august they had 1000' clocks and it ran a 6.38 for 1000'! |

We're typically doing the 1/8th in the mid to low 4's ... would like to get it consistently some 0.20 to 0.25 lower ... the boat is still very new and isn't dialed in yet.

Steve, On Steve Dougls' Blown alky Placecraft jet they ran a 6.24 at Bryan, and I asked Garry if they should consider the 7 sec. class as I feel you need to run under 6.0 sec in the 1000' to be competetive, or just add about 400hp of NOS to kick the afterburners in.
