Anybody who attended last years event should have received your entry packet by now. If you did'nt receive one and you want to attend the event please visit the web site at smokininthecove.com Remember that you must race your boat at a sanctioned event somewhere this year in order to be elgible for the big show at the Cove. The event this year should be better than ever with the addition of the Second Chance "8" for the 17'th thru 24'th qualifiers.Hope to see you there, Aim it at the mountain. Scott

That is one beautiful looking place. I'm not familiar with the 1000' indexes. What does the 6 second class consist of? If I am reading correctly, 10,000 to the winner of the 6 second class? That's impressive.

Scottyb, the 6 second class in the 1000' would be the same as the 8 second class in the quarter mile.

Scotty, if you aren't already booked for that weekend, it is a race to behold, with that much money at stake there is some serious racing going on. Heck they just might need an extra rescue person. It is a fun weekend and a beautiful site.

Joe Don, I will look into it, but have to see how work goes after two trips to Cali, in September. How far is it from DFW? BTW, who is providing rescue for this event?

Scottyb; It is about 300 miles from Dallas. Would like to see you there. If you come up be sure and look me up. It will be around 130 of the best bracket boats in the country. Rescue is provided by the local water rescue team along with two volunteer fire departments. We have 4 lakes in the area so most of the e.m.t.'s and paramedics we have here are also divers. 36 days till we aim it at the monntain.

SEaweed or somebody, Tell me how the lights work at Smokin! I read in the rules that a perfect light is .500? What's up with that? How does the tree run? Are there numbers? Or Just lights?

Mike, they are different than SDBA, the year I went in '99, I didn't ever figure them out, but most everyone has, it is just a sudden change from the clocks we are used to. I never had problems going from LED to the big ben clock, but SITC lights threw me for a loop, I enjoyed the races from on top of my beer cooler though.

Mike, my suggestion is to take as many qualifying runs as possible to get tuned into the clock, when it goes into the final countdown it goes fast, it was hard for me to leave with any consistency.

Water Rocket - Sam Russell runs TE 077 "Bustin Loose". It's a red Cheyenne jet boat with big ole Ford with zoomies and a gal bustin out of a bikini on the deck, the gal is holding a chicken by the neck.

Water Rocket; Come see me in Pine Bluff and I will explain it to you. I will also show you the system at the race site before you run on it so you will know how it works . We have a regular dragstrip tree that has three ambers and a green light. we also have a count down clock that counts down the final 5 seconds of the start. if you wait for the ambers you are way late so just run our clock just like a regular clock at any other event and adjust your reaction time after the first pass.I dont know about you but when I race i have different approaches to the clock depending on who's equipment is used at the race. Obviously you saw that at Marble Falls. 32 days till we aim it at the mountain.

Hey Rocket, I posted before I had all the info you needed. The start length is 125 ft. the O.OO on the clock is a perfect reaction time and my boat # is 191 and the name is Freedom Plus. If you can't find me Pine Bluff, look for anyone with Scott's Marine decals on there boat and they will help you too. Actually, I think everyone at Pine Bluff will help you. Just remember, it's only 32 days till we all face the mountain.

Scott that's great! Thanks I will come find you! I'm RR-1 #333 and I have a yellow Pit buggy! SDBA is working hard to get us 1000' time slips in PB! Thanks to a great Sanctioning body! Can you believe that they would try and help something (SITC) that they have no $$$ to gain? KUDOS to SDBA for helping grow a great sport! That's why I pay my dues! SDBA is #1

Seaweed would know! Yes, It's an outlaw race. But, it's the 18th annual event, so I'm sure they have insurance!

Duane, here is a quote off their web site reguarding Insurance! looks like they are working on a few details (but I bet they are worked out by now, since this is an old quote). So I'm sure they have insurance. Quote; I have insurance issues to work out. All racers are required to have a current drivers license form current operating sanctions- (Read Rule Book for Details). There will be no exceptions, there will be no testing for license at race site. No one will race without a current license.

Duane, having run at SITC, it is Outlaw Racing only in the fact that it is not a sanctioned race. Actually for a bunch of dedicated people who put this on, for the last 18 or so years it is probably as professional as you can get with any sanctioning body, and as it has no affiliation with any racing organization I can't see where it could even remotely involve any of the racing associations. Also if you thnk this could be a detriment to boat racing, you should research the poker run's that are held on public water with boats running 150+ mph on open lakes where people fish and ski while these behemoths are playing cards at top speed.

I would say that with 18 years experiance, "Smokin in the Cove" is a sanctioned body that only put's on one race a year! SDBA thinks enough of the race, that they put up extra timing equipment for 1000' times, at the past two race's! At their own expence!

My take on it is that they, the promoters, do have insurance for the event ... THESE GUYS ARE SUCCESSFUL, RESPONSIBLE BUSINESSMEN afterall ... The event is being called an "Outlaw" Event (this nomenclature seems to have popped up this year) by some who may have other agendas ... and ... It's really too bad that other sanctioning bodies don't seem to be able to raise their events to this level of professionalism with professional purses ... I'm all for an "Outlaw Circuit" that pays Professional Purses reflecting the Personal Dedication, Time and Money that we Drag Boat Racers Commit to the Sport ... Don't You Think ..... It's Time to Start Really Raising The Sport To A Different Level ..... like NASCAR, NHRA, and IHRA??? To me, Smokin In The Cove is a start.

"Outlaw race'n" Down in the south has a very positive reaction! Have you never heard that "Ladies, love Outlaws"? It's not a nick name that's ment to be derogatory, It's ment to be flattering!

S.I.T.C. started as a true outlaw race for local bass fishermen and hotrodders. From 1990 until 1996 it was a D.S.R.A. sanctioned race with outboards only. In 1996 I became race director and with Glenn Brashears as promoter started what is S.I.T.C. today. We have Had 120-130 boats for the last 4 years and expect that many or more this year. Qualifying will start at 9:A.M. on Friday Sep. 26 and go until dark. Qualifying will resume at 8:oo A.M. on Sat. Sept.27th and end at 6:00 P.M. sharp. We will put in and count as many rounds as the good lord allows us to. The top 16 git to race for the big money and the 17th-thru 24th git to run for their entry fee back,I mean a lesser amount. Entergy Corp. owns the water, therefore we must have insurance to have a race. The rescue coordinator has been with us since the beginning. I feel that he and his colleagues are well qualified to act in any situation. This place is tight and the competition will be fierce. There will be 30-40 boats looking for the top 16 in each class. It won't be easy to make the field. Lot's of good teams have tried and lot's of good teams have failed. That's what makes S.I.T.C. what it is If you have any question about this being a professional race, just ask anyone who has been here.10 days till we aim it at the mountain.

Face it, the days of going over 8 second in an open cockpit at an organized venue should be over!Well, This fit's right in then. The fastest class in 1000' is 6.000! That's the same as an 8.000 1/4 mile race. But, I do agree that any boat 8.000 or faster should have a capsale (and if I was going to run 8.000 I would have one too) but, that's just me. my two cents!
