Hate to say it, but when I read your blog it sounds like James Ray's crash made your day. Nice photo work though.

Do you have pics leading up to the crash? Would like to see more to see what actually happened. From the video it looks like the boat lifted the right side and it was all over after that. |

In this picture, does it look like the capsule is opening? Go to Mark's pictures and you can see it better on a larger picture.

Delta.....Are you kidding me....Mark is a Stand up guy and NEVER would celebrate the crash and/or injury of a racer. You owe him an apology.... |

Mr. Todd, first of all I never said he would celebrate a crash. Did you read his blog, or just tell people who they should apologize to? Read his blog. I'll paraphrase some of his comments. Thursday he is bored, Friday he is bored. Then he explains expains how it is so much easier to get the right photo boat in a crash, 50 50 chance. All I meant was that he reminds me of some idiot who goes to races looking for a crash. Because, even though Drag boats are going down the course on Thursday and Friday, both days he is bored, his words. Then he says "Saturday made it all worthwhile". I am just going to go out on a limb here. Could it be because he got to post spectacular crash photos, [and they are spectacular.] Maybe it his choice of words, bored, bored, worthwhile. Read it again , those words really troubled me, that simple. Maybe it is my interpretation, maybe he could have used a few different words to describe his days. Who knows? All that really matters is that James Ray makes a quick and good recovery. Now go preach to someone else. |

Ms. Delta, Speaking of "Preaching", take a good look at yourself. Not sure what your issue is here but if you knew Mark, he certainly is no "Idiot". (your words) I read his blog and I took it a completely different way. Attacking me does not change that. Mark is a Military Guy and deserves all the respect he can get. If you look around, he is a VERY WELL respected Photographer in ALL aspects of Racing and other media as well. He certainly does not deserve your representation or "Paraphrasing" of his words or remarks. He can speak for himself and does a good job of it. Do you even know him?
You can do whatever you want with this information, but as you can see from others posts, they too do not agree with your remarks regarding Mark.
Have a nice Turkey Day...Oops, sorry for once again suggesting that you do something positive.... Jt |

Geez Jimmy, I had a great day, only to come home , read your post, and find out I have an issue, or even issues. Now I'll cut the sarcasm and get to the point. Mr. Todd, you are absolutely right. My use of the word idiot was a horrible choice of words, I was out of line using it, and Mr. Rebilas, I apologize. I followed the finals on this site. When I saw the post titled James Ray crash, my reaction was" oh no", here we go again. I was totally relieved at the initial reports that James had a cut hand, and some bruises. Still, it made me kind of sick to think that hundreds of hours of labor, and tens of thousands of dollars were gone in an instant. Not to mention that dragboat racing could lose another Fuel team due to a crash. Later on in the day Mr. Rebilas posted his incredible pictures of the crash. But when I read the blog, several times , the words boring, then worthwhile just seemed to rub me the wrong way, and to be honest they still do. That is why I posted the "made your day". comment |

To continue, sorry. To quote you Jimmy, "I read his blog and I took it a completely different way." Maybe that is the point. I took it one way, you another. To answer your question Jimmy, no, I do not know Mr. Rebilas, I actually respect you defending a friend though. But you act like I was tearing him to shreds. If you say he is a stand up guy, great, a military man, thank you for your service. But I wasn't criticizing his military career or his character, only blog, get it? And Thank you for wishing me a nice Turkey Day. [You don't have to be sorry.] God Bless James Ray. Finally Mr. Rebilas, your camera work is awesome. Let's move on. |

Sadly large scale magazines dont purchase photos of drag boats just going down the track. Believe me I wish they did, I'd be rich. Nobody wants the boat to crash and for sure nobody wants to see anyone get hurt. But as media it is our duty and in Mark's case his CAREER to cover it and thats exactly what he did. Unfortunately if there is a shot to be had it is our job to get it and Mark is exactly right there is a 50% chance of getting it. And it does get boring sitting out for a while you can only see so many boats going down the track so many times before its redundant photographers see just as many passes as the announcers and officials. It sucks but .... its our job to get that shot and Mark, as always, did an amazing job of doing that. |

I received email today that James is home and is getting ready to head to the Rehabilitation. His trip back to Texas was ok and his spirits are good and does not anticipate lot of time in rehab (already been there done that) cards can be sent to HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Midland/Odessa, 1800 Heritage Blvd, Midland TX 79707 not sure if you can call to talk to him but the number there is 432-520-1600. Here’s to a speedy recovery James, look forward to seeing you soon! |

Hey I appreciate all of the thoughts from everyone. And by the way as far as the re-hab hosp I only stayed there for a day. It was easy to tell that I could do better by working with my orthopedic doctor directly and am doing so. Other than that just some very long painful days.
Again thanks for the thoughts and keep in touch.

Any updates on James? I'm sure plenty of people are going to ask next weekend at the IHBA season opener at Firebird Raceway. As for the miss taken comments of the blog, when a photographer gets excellent photos of a crash that can help a race team rule out fears of specific human or mechanical failures it gives the photographer great satifaction and validation for the past boring days. All you photographers........Keep up the great work......I've met many of you and can say you all are great people. |

Not bad for that skinny kid who we used to take out on the rescue boat. I think he was using Gil's backup cameras back then. |
