SINCE I AM NOT FAMILIAR ENOUGHT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO POST A NEW TOPIC I WILL JUST ASK HERE, AND MAYBE DUANE CAN MOVE TO A NEW TOPIC.  SINCE NHRA HAS NOW BECOME SMART ENOUGH TO MOVE THE FUELERS TO A 1000 FOOT TRACK, DO YOU THINK THAT US BOAT RACERS WILL BE SMART ENOUGH TO FOLLOW OR WILL WE WAIT UNTIL TRAGEDY STRIKES?     ANY INPUT??

That is great topic Roger, Im not sure how I feel about a shorter course. The big MPH  definitely sells tickets but,  it would probably would save alot of money on parts and maybe even peoples lives. I myself have never ran much over 230 but i would like to hear the opinions of people that have.

I doubt it Greg, I'm still trying  to figure out how I'm gonna get there this year. My car is still in the shop waiting on getting a new transmission and my local hangout is not available this year so I have to find a place to stay & hotel rooms are not a place I can prep and store birds.

Hopefully you will be able to make it, without Gadsden we need all we can on the loan east coast race. Hopefully we will get a few more in the future so the summer swing through the south will continue for a long time.

In an effort to offset the impact of high fuel costs, all participants who race in the 2008 Augusta Southern Nationals will be awarded $150.00 to offset expenses associated with making the trip if you are not awarded a Local Sponsor by the Augusta committee.  Please spread the word.

It was not Spirit of Texas that went off course, it was Liquid Quiker.  Spirit of Texas had a good launch and then Scott shut it off at half track.  He called me not long after the run.....he knows it is killing me to be here while he is there racing.

Good Luck to all and keep 'em safe!

The race report that I received was the Liquid Quiker did run a 4.59, Speed Sports ran a 4.95, Spirit of Texas sneezed at the hit and shut off.  Not sure about how Hot Licks...sorry they couldnt tell me Hot Licks numbers.

Buzz did say that they didn't think they wouldn't be able to get Ronnie's helmet back on after that 4.59----too big of a smile!  Congrats to the Liquid Quiker team, that is just excellent!!  We are so excited for them!!  Wish we were there for celebrate with you and have a cold canadian Labatt!

Unfortunately there was an issue with getting the MPH's on either run of Liquid Quiker. So they will not be able to have the speed's of either of their record passes.

The TAF will not be able to complete their "Best 2 out of 3" competition. There was a bang at the end of the last run and Don ended up hurting the boat and not being able to make the next round. Steve and Don both had one win under their belts and they decided to call it a draw!!

The two Texas top fuel boats will be coming out for a Texas showdown. The ASN put some prize money together for the winner of this match up. Good Luck to both teams!!

John,

There were no speeds recorded on either one of Liquid Quikers record setting runs, so any MPH's that are posted anywhere are guesses or best calculations. It was really too bad that both runs did not get the speeds.  The Triple Crown" would have been great but they won the race AND set the ET record, all in all, not a bad weekend.

Again Congratulations to all the winners it was an exciting and safe weekend of racing!!

Laurie

Eddie we missed you this weekend.  They had it on rails after the first attemp.  I didn't see the slips except for our pairing 2.94 @ 203mph.  I heard they were all mid 2.9s at 202 or 203 mph. The bad news for all of us is Brad Meyers told me it pushed the sponsons down and Ron gave it a breath and it still ran 4.58!!!  Great job Rick and the rest of the crew.

From our Race Report posted by Laurie

Liquid Quiker

0.472 2.956 202.42 4.593
0.273 2.948 203.25 4.582

Any MPH posted here or on any other website is only speculation by one or more opinions. Charlie apologized to the Liquid Quicker team at the award ceremony and accepted responsibility for the clocks failure to record a MPH for their runs. He made a commitment to resolve the timing issues.

(PS I have the speach recorded)

I can't speculate on why he did not get a MPH when the boat in the other lane did. His two runs were in opposite lanes on different days and his numbers are nearly identical.

If you really want to blow your mind, we know his 1/8 and 1/4 ET's on both runs, therefore an average MPH over the final 1/8 can be established. This should be significantly lower than his peak MPH.  Do the math.

Well since I step in it with both feet here is what I posted on another site.  I'm sure I'll live to regret this.

Both passes were awesome. Again I'm not trying to stir up the pot so please help me figure this out. Are my calculations correct?
At 260 mph you travel 381.33 FPS. With a 1.64 sec. last 1/2 you travel 625.386 feet, 34.61 feet short. At 270 mph you travel 396 FPS. With a 1.64 last 1/2 you travel 649.44 feet. Still a bit short. This is with an average mph for the distance not the terminal speed. In other words you have to be 260 mph or 270 mph at 661 feet of race course and maintain it to 1320.

We know they were at 203 mph at the 660 so they must have been much higher than 260mph or 270 mph and slowed down before the lights to those speeds to average 260 or 270 for the last 660 feet. Just for kicks if you averaged 275mph you will travel 661 feet in 1.64 seconds.

Daaaaamn!! that thing must have had one heck of an after burner to pick up the back end like that. Usually a mid 2.9, 1/8th is good for a 4.90 1/4.
Hats off to Roger for the finish line hp's.
It appears I'm going to have to spend some late nights at the chalk board to try and catch up with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What was Speed Sport running to the 1/8th ? They have been the picture of consistancy and big MPH over the last few years.
How did they arrive at the MPH #'s for L.Q. ?? I heard someone mention that the clocks don't go over 260, which seems kind of odd since we've seen a 263. run.
