I am about to mount my new pillow blocks to the transom. Do I need to run a strip of aluminum stock along the back to stiffen up the transom? My plans are 75 to 80 MPH at best. It is a thick old hull with 1/2" ply and about 3/8" of fiberglass on the transom.

I recently put on a 2 blade prop. When I was looking through the Glenwood catalog I saw they sell some heavy duty shafts for 2 blades...do I need a better shaft for my 80 MPH goal?

Here is a pic of my old cav set-up.

Thanks,

The old dude

its been my experience that every flat should have a strip inside its not so much for strenght but to stop the hard washer from sinking into the softer glass and wood .
as for the shaft do you know what kind of material it is ? if its A/22 i would just take it in and get it x-rayed . that will show any internal fatigue and the most minnor surface cracks i take mine in before every race weekend for my T.A.H. peace of mind
im sure some of the other guys will have some more advice or a better idea
hope this helps a bit

I would agree with BB. Beside which it just gives you one more piece to polish lol.
Honestly on the shaft as long as it is A/22 it should be fine for a long time. You do need to check it once in a while. I had one on my first flattie that lasted 5 years and we ran it every weekend.
