I'm doing some maintenance on the cavitation plate system. New control rod bushings, bolts, shaft seal.... I disassembled the pedals. Once I was inside the block that houses the two pedals and their gears I found just two small woodruff keys that hold the gears in place. But there is nothing that actually holds the pedals themselves in place. What keeps the pedals from pulling out or just falling out of their housing? I'm having a machinist press some bushings into the aluminum housing because the pedals have become loose from wear. We noticed nothing actually holds the pedals in place.

The hull is a 1989 Canyon.
