I just sold my orange one and I'm picking up the new one tomorrow or Wednesday, but it's 18' 6" long and IIRC, 7' 6" wide or close to that.

I bought another Fineline, the old Midnight Oil hull, I pick it up tomorrow. The only other measurment I have is the Water Craft TFH hull, it's 19 feet by 7.5 feet.

A young local guy (Nor Cal), he has a Sanger pickle fork lake boat now and wants to start running with NJBA. I wouldn't sell it to one other guy that wanted to buy it, he seemed like a nut case! He wanted to turn it into a ballistic delta boat, it would have helped his case a little if he had been sober when he called! Anyway, we have to many drunks on fast boats in the Delta now, I didn't figure we needed another. The guy that bought it restored his Sanger, so I wanted it to go into good hands, I think I found the right guy.

Fineline Hydroplane - the Glass is 18' 7" + typically 2"-4" rear blast plate + steering head typically another 10", should get you approximately 19' 8". I figure you need minimum 20' trailer/garage space w/o trailer tounge, width is 97 1/2", so you need a 8'6" trailer with the rear opened to the edge of the wall. It is a tight fit but that is not all bad.

Hi Rob, yup, I remember now, I sold the orange one and pick up the new old one tomorrow, so I had nothing to measure.
Ha, I guess I got duped, a friend saw my old orange one for sale locally today with a $4000 tag on it!

Thanks Stix. The one thing that I learned and made loading it alot easier is making sure the boat is perfectly straight on the dolly trailer
I wish you all the luck with the new boat. |

If you are talking about width to fit in trailers, Finelines, Straitlines, Beanie,Rob Steel boats do fit really tight. If you want to know the real numbers that actually count ,this is all you need to know. A hydro has what I call a wheel base. The dimension from the three points that it rides on. The Fineline has an 11 foot wheel base from the sponson to the CL of the prop location, give or take a few inches from different struts, or ideas in general. The width of the sponsons are usually 65" between the sponson pads. If you go back in time, not many of any hull design was intended to do what we do with them. The fineline is a really fast boat. My opinion is that a 501 or a fineline is the best choice for a guy to start with. they both work with minimal modifications. These guys that say that Kurtis hulls shut down funny, and finelines can't stay in there lane, and deavers are insane, and Sangers are old, they are just repeating what the last jask ass screwed up on. We have been able to make any hydro work, with the exception of patience, and of course, budget. I would look for a Rob Steel hull or buy a new one from him. The finelines out there are a little to old. Glass does not improve over the years, it gets worse. |

We run a Bitz 501. The boat we have has one off bottom that I did. I changed the approach to the sponson, and dropped the sponson. The Bitz, the watercraft, are splashes off of the kurtis. An mph hull is a widened 501 as well, I believe 4" wider. The wheel base on a Kurtis is around 10 feet, a foot shorter than a fineline, and the sponson width is 50" between the sponsons. The fineline has a fork that sticks out 42"", and a nose cone that is around 30". That is three feet of boat that does, I dont know what, but they do hall ass. Do not hesitate to call if you have any questions. I do not have a date yet, but I will be building Precision Craft 501's with a trick bottom, and a bad ass deck. I am years off, but it is going to happen. |

J Shelfo what's your feelings about the splashes or copies off the Kurtis? You mentioned that the 501 and Finelines run well out of the box. What's your opinion on the Watercraft and some of the other manufactures?? I know it's based off of the set-up and budget so I'm just looking at basics characteristics of the boats. Who makes the watercraft and mph hauls?? I appreciate the help!!!

Vince, if it's of any interest to you, I have a Kurtis 500 and it's 78 inches wide. It use to be a BGH. I've run it in TE since 2000 and never had any handling problems. The owner before me ran it in PGH with no problems.

Pro Mod 115
The picture is of a Brendel or a Beanie. The easy way to tell the original Fineline is the Square Ferarri F-40 looking tail fins. The boat in the picture has them cut down. I am sure it was eliminated in the copied versions because it is a real bugger to lay up those fins. First gel coating down the fin in the mold (think upside down and inside out) is almost impossible, then you have to lay it up, sticky wrists and hands for sure.
The versions of the Fineline Hydro molds I know of are 1) the original Ron Edhe built mold for Centurion Boats/Fineline Industries that is sitting in my back yard. 2) Steve Diede built a copy when he owned the mold, kind of switched the deck around like the small Kurtis, he called it a Beanie(I bought my mold from Andy Pursley/Walt Ott/Steve Diede. 3) James Brendel splashed a copy off the old Flustration Boat, this version was the last Money For Nothing Boat and Gone Haywire 4) James Brendel built the big tail fin boat with the bolt on sponsons (sorry guys James was the first guy I saw do this) from a Fineline plug. I think this is where one of the outriggers came from. (cant miss that Ron Edhe Fineline sponson)
Ron Edhe is the mastermind behind the Fineline along with the Big Brendella, the Big Kurtis, Charger Boats, Hydroflite Boats, All of Eliminator Boats Tunnels, Daves Custom Boats DCB, The Ott's big boat, He has done boats for Cole, Nordic, Cobra and many more.
He has forgot more about it than we will ever know.
I think I may have over answered your question and spun out a bit.

I have owned a sanger shovel nose, a cole hydro, a dimarco hydro, and a fineline and to me the fineline is the nicest driving and riding hydro out there but I must say that I was at about every race that a fineline was crashed at and they sure like to wreck above about 190!! I have a fineline right now that I had narrowed by bill gagin at cougar marine. It wouldn't fit in my trailer door and I think they were too wide to start with. I don't understand why basically all the hydro manufacturer's used that real flat, low transom heighth. All the boats want to crack where the steering arm comes through the transom and once you put the weight of a big ass blown motor and trans in there they are about to sink from water coming over the splash decks. I would say that it is a proven fact that a fineline is 10 mph faster than any other hydro with the same power .
