your right RB props and I just dare to guess who's setup it also had. Sometimes it pays to spend you money in certain places and with certain people that have been around a long time and not reinventing the wheel |

Intersting... was that on the first run???
This didn't look like 246 to me but it was great to see that Bullet on the water and getting down the track. It has been a long road for those guys. Paul and and Cookie did a great job on the boat with the help from RB, The Other Dunn and Joe. What caused the boat to get out of shape and damaged the back end of the boat. Did they loose a prop?

If that's the case, sounds like something that needs to be fixed. Hitting a cable at 246, very fortunate outcome. For IHBA Rescue Sponsorship Package

Yes there are steel cables in the canal for the rowing lanes but they are on the bottom of the water not on top where the boats run!!! They may have hit something but very unlikly a steel cable. Robert no need to scream, loosing a prop is unfortunately happens and I was just asking since there was damage on the back end of the boat and the video did not show the props. What were they using for times now, I know they want to buy a timing system but have not heard if they had or not.

By the type of damage it sure looks like it may have hit something or other. (CROC maybe??) It's real hard to spread one of those clam shells like that, especially one that beefy. I AM however, impressed with the bullet not spinning out at that kind of speed. That's the third time I've seen one of those boats slide sideways and not tip. I'm feeling better already!!!!!!!!!!!! www.eddieknoxracing.comProblem Child TFH #712 |

Lets get a couple of things straight. The cables are not steel, but rope. They are 9' down. The cables are kevlar rope, held on the banks by huge concrete blocks, and only 4 go horizontily across the river. The rest go up and down the course. The course is 2 miles long, the actual rowing area is built to olympic measurements. To hit a rope at speed would more than likely cut the rope. We had 40 boats racing all weekend, outboards and two other hydros and no one hit anything. 1 month ago we other hydros run and did not hit anything. Even Paul himself is convinced they have another problem and didin't hit anything. Never the less we are dredging the lanes to look for anything that might be the cause. My hydro ran the same lane, much slower than Paul, my rudder would have been deeper, we hit nothing. (I'm talking about a cable, perhaps there could be something else???) Paul's rudder was not marked by hitting anything. His rudder and mine are the same length. We will advise all of any outcome we find. |

My son Brien talked with Paul yesterday, he said both his hands were bruised which means the boat rattled the rudder from the prop wash. The same problem Daryl had with the bullets first Red Bluff race....the cause is the front leading edege of the rudder was to close to the front of the clamshell pin...because the twin props are clocked, which means the left prop will be at 12 and the right set at 3 to keep from digging a hole in the water... if the rudder blade is too close the pin the prop wash beats the rudder so hard in Daryls case shook the rudder so hard the steering box rolled foward and pulled the steering box away from the splined shaft...in Pauls case the transom steering mounting plates gave out first while the transom fiberglass cracked. |

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it or not, but that was a great job of driving!! Would 246 be the fastest pass down under??? (besides Warby) I think Scott Price ran in the high teens or 220's many years ago. www.eddieknoxracing.comProblem Child TFH #712 |

Eddie, I agree on both! Paul did a great job driving! I am pretty sure you are correct on the speed too. Scott in his TAH, was at the time running 225-227 here. I thinking it was in the twentys down under too? Hey Gaz can you please comfirm this for us?

Yeah, Scott Price ran a 222 and change about 8/9 years ago here in Melbourne, that was the fastest run ever here. Paul ran a 219 in one pass in the alky boat 2 years ago, but are focused on the fuel boat now.

Paul seems to have the knack for getting good speeds out of the boats he drives, with Craig's TFH "Nitro Thunder" running 246 MPH and TAH "Thunder Down Under" running 226 MPH in 2006 [My memory is not real flash but I am pretty sure it was written up in the VDBC November 2006 newsletter] Even when he Started Circuit Boat racing and he Took his Blown Alcohol Displacement Circuit Boat "Bad Attitude" to the Windsor Drags in 1996 and ran 139 MPH. [Mr "Dads Toy Down Under" It has been ages since we took a B.A.D boat for a run and I would be interested to know what speeds the B.A.D boats are now doing down in Sunny Melbourne.] Also Mr "Dads Toy Down Under" it is great you are finally getting to take "Distant Thunder" for a Drive. Remember that there is a one can of coke penalty if any of our crew sees your boat "NOT" detailed in the manor in which we trained it. Good luck, Charlie "Shed sweeper and boat tools recovery technician'<!-- Edit --> Post Edited (cbm) : 4/6/2008 12:11:06 PM GMT |
