Well, the 502 is apart. Two spun bearings, #1 and #4. Four slightly bent valves. The crank appears to be seriously out of round on #1 and #4. The mating rods looked perfect. On the long trip back to Oklahoma we considered all the things we could have done wrong when putting it together. Were the bearing caps in the right place? Were they facing the right direction? Did we put a bearing in upside down? Six hours is a long time to dwell on it. The main caps were all correct. It appears that the bearings were all installed correctly. We could not find a oil galley ring impression on the lower bearing half of either failed bearing that would show it was upside down when torqued. The oil galleys appear clear of debris and the oil pump is in great shape. The oil pump drive had no damage. The crank journal on #1 and #4 are severely damaged on one side meaning there was a lack of oil clearance and either the crank is bent or the block mains are out of alignment. Bill is taking the block and crank to a shop for alignment boring and regrind today.
